Travel to Bocas Town

Bocas Town is becoming a very popular tourist destination; it is also an area that a lot of people are choosing to retire to. The reason is that the Bocas Del Toro is one of the last areas in the Caribbean that hasn't yet been overrun by tourists. There are certainly tourists, it is the most popular destination in Panama, but the numbers are nowhere near what they are on some of the more popular Caribbean islands. More importantly the government of Panama have gone to great lengths to retain the natural beauty of the area. The result is one of the last unspoiled areas in the Caribbean and a very popular vacation destination.

Bocas town is the main town in the province of Bocas del Toro which is a group of islands on Panama's Caribbean coast. The main reason that people would want to visit Bocas is for the beaches which are some of the finest in the world. The area of course offers all of the activities that you would expect a Caribbean island to have, snorkeling, diving, surfing, and sailing. There is also a rain forest on the islands making it an excellent area for people who are interested in wildlife. The dining in town is excellent although the nightlife is somewhat limited.

The weather in Bocas Town is warm all year round although there is quite a bit of rain. Surprisingly for an island in the Caribbean Bocas has never been hit by a hurricane. Most travelers visit in late summer, early fall or in late winter, early spring since these are the least rainy times of the year.

There are a few different ways that you can get to Bocas Town, there are flights from Panama city to the island but most visitors coming from within Panama get their by water taxi. There are flights to Panama City from most major American cities, from there you can travel by bus to the coast and take a water taxi to the island. The other option is to approach the island from Costa Rica. There is a bridge connecting Bocas to Costa Rica it is used by a large number of tourists.

Since Bocas is the most popular tourist destination in Panama there are lots of options when it comes to hotels. There aren't really any top end hotels most are more of the family hotel type. There are also quite a few hostels for people on a budget. There should be little difficulty in finding accommodation in Bocas but it is a good idea to book ahead of time. The location of the hotel is not really all that critical since you will spend little time in the town itself. The town is the center point where the tourists stay but most of the attractions are actually outside of the town.
